Creation of a sheltered external space to connect the garden with the interior.
The client was considering relocating but loved the location of their house, their house just needed something extra to give them what they were looking for. After a visit to the house and a chat with the client a brief was agreed. The client wanted an outdoor space that was reminiscent of their holidays in Italy but provided them with enough shelter to enjoy being outside in the UK weather.
kept to a simplistic format with the tiles fixed to batten directly to the roof joists – allowing the underside of the tiles to be seen from below. The vertical fins are adjustable and can be moved to suit the sun path or closed to keep out a cold breeze. When combined with the fireplace this creates a cosy shelter for both the house and garden. The space is used throughout the year and is the family’s favourite room of their home.
